6 miles
We are following all of our longer runs with short runs, so after last week's 12 miles, we "recovered" with 6 miles this morning. Most of the group did a 10k race at Universal Studios, but since I had to work today, I decided not to. Lucky for me, 2 others from my group were there, along with someone who joined us from another group. It was empty today. Possibly because people feared the rain, but there was no rain and the weather was absolutely ideal for running. The run today was pretty easy, considering the first portion of it was uphill. I really enjoyed how mellow it was though. We all did really great, and stayed exactly on track. It was nice. On top of that, I must admit, I did not one maintenance run this past week. The new jobs have been keeping me extremely busy, but I have to get at least one in this week, somewhere.
The Cake
I ordered it. At first, we had this grand illusion of an idea for a cake, but recently, I decided to completely simplify. Our cake is going to be simple, but super cute, and really delicious. And that is all I got done this week as far as wedding plans go. Brian has been researching printers for us, in order to print lots of wedding inspired projects. I think we're pretty close to buying one too. Much more to come once that printer is purchased!
This weeks marathon goals
-run at least one 3 mile maintenance run, but try to do two
-run 14 miles Sunday. Yes, 14!
This weeks wedding goals
-start looking for airline tickets and book them
-buy a printer
-continue designing the other top secret project for the wedding favors
-start designing the ceremony programs
-start thinking about a slide show
-try to finish invites completely and start printing
-start arranging the wedding music and contact music coordinator (Brian)

Week 9: 12 Miles / Envelopes, Customs, & Pavement
You May have noticed, I skipped week 8. We did a 5 mile maintenance run. The sun was out and shining hard, so the run was a pretty tough one. I only managed to get one maintenance run in this past week, but surprisingly, 12 miles was not too bad.
12 miles
It's true. For some reason, 10 miles really hurt, but 12 was not as straining as I imagined it would be. I felt like I could have kept going, if I really wanted to. We even started the first 2 miles going up a fairly steep hill, but I felt pretty good all of Sunday. Now, 2 days later, and I'm sore. Really, really, really sore. Walking is difficult. I don't know how I'm going to run this week.
Envelopes, Customs, & Pavement
The reason I really don't know how I'm going to run is also based on the fact that I got yet another part-time job. This puts me at working 50 hours a week. I will basically be at work from 8am-8pm (or later) everyday, so it looks like I'll be waking up bright and early more often. This also gives me very little time to plan a wedding, so that might be a challenge. We did purchase our envelopes and are almost done with all the designing of the materials accompanying the invite! What a relief!
Speaking of a relief, one of my bridesmaids, who lives in Tokyo, just received her bridesmaid dress! Why is that so exciting? Well, it was stuck in customs for about 2 weeks! Very scary! And the dress fits, so all is great in Tokyo!
We also started thinking long and hard about the honeymoon. We haven't purchased plane tickets yet, but we already purchased concert tickets to see Pavement in Paris. Plane tickets will be purchased soon, I think. I guess we're still figuring it all out.
This weeks marathon goals
-run at least one 3 mile maintenance run
-run 6 miles Sunday
This weeks wedding goals
-Make some final decisions on where to honeymoon and start looking for airline tickets
-Make some final decisions on if we should buy a printer for wedding projects, or not (or should we wait until the day after Christmas to get a printer???)
-continue/possibly finish designing the other top secret project for the wedding favors
-start designing the ceremony programs
-start thinking about a slide show
-try to finish invites completely and start printing
-start arranging the wedding music and contact music coordinator (Brian)

Week 7: 10 Miles / This & That
10 miles
It's a few days after the big 10 mile run and I'm still experiencing a bit of pain. It's hard running 10 miles! My knee is in pain and my toes have blisters. Ugh. This was the first time I did not get into the run. I usually start off tired and then get motivated once we start going, but this time, I was feeling a bit defeated. I bought a few running snacks, which helped, but this week's run just felt awful. The last mile was the worst. My thighs and knees felt so sore, and i got a stomach cramp. Complain, complain, complain. Days later and my knee is still in pain. This is why I quit last year. This year, I can't let myself quit! But, this knee has got to start feeling okay again.
This & That
This week was a bit hectic, because I started a new job. It's a part-time job, so one would think I have more time for wedding planning, but lately, it seems my hours are closer to a full-timer, so it's been a little busy. Though, I did get quite a few things done. I sampled around for ribbons and envelopes as part of our wedding invites. I think we're almost at a decision, too! I'm hoping to get it all figured out by this coming week.
I also called around for printing prices and was pleasantly surprised at how affordable things are coming together. I have started designing the last element for our wedding invite package and the favors, so as soon as we get all the content together, things will be ready for printing! It's so weird to think these invites are going out in about 3 more months. Time is flying by too fast!
Brian also got busy this week and scheduled our one-day church meeting for January. Lots of things going on in January. Oh, January.... it's almost here! I'm almost starting to feel the pressure, but not quite yet! I'm going to try to prolong my relaxation as long as I can before the nerves take over! I'm hoping to stay relaxed the whole way through... let's see if I can!
This weeks marathon goals:
-I just did some elliptical machine today
-run 3 miles on Wednesday or Thursday
-run 3 miles Friday or Saturday
-do pilates one time this week
-run 5 miles Sunday
This weeks wedding goals:
-continue to look for bridesmaid shoes
-continue/possibly finish designing the other top secret project for the wedding favors
-start designing the ceremony programs
-start thinking about a slide show
-try to finish invites completely and start printing
-buy envelopes for invitations
-start arranging the wedding music and contact music coordinator (Brian)

Week 6: 8 Miles / Church, Suit, & Dress
8 miles
This wasn't so bad! My knee didn't hurt one time while we were running; though it has been in pain a tiny bit ever since. Nothing I can't handle! This was a big week for me. Last year, I started running and potentially training for the marathon, but after I got to 8 miles, I quit. The pain in my knee was just too much back then. After running 8 miles this week, I already felt that I could have ran 2 more. Of course, it would be difficult on my own, but having my wonderful pace group by my side makes it all doable! Thanks, Team Tergat!

I got to talking to the coach quite a bit after the run and realized my diet might be a little too strict for the amount of running I do now. So, this week, I'm experimenting with my food intake and starting to add pilates into my weekly routine.
Church Things
I haven't done much wedding related this week. I've been really busy and distracted by starting a new job, so Brian has taken charge and done so much for our church planning. We met with the church lady this week to go over our "focus" and luckily, we found out we're pretty compatible based on our 100-something questionnaire we filled out on our first day. So hooray for being compatible! We also sat in on a wedding performed by the priest we booked for our day. He is so funny! I'm really excited we got him on our day! He will bring a little comic relief to the tears I will probably be dropping that day. I don't know how I'm going to make it!
We did a few outfit trials this week. Brian and I went looking around at possible suits for him. We didn't quite find the right suit, but it was really fun seeing my boy all dolled up! He does look mighty handsome in a suit! I saw him dress up, but he didn't see me. I guess I wouldn't mind if he wanted to, but he's a little old fashioned and wants the whole surprise. So, while he waited outside, I had my first wedding dress fitting! It was great! All I tried on was the lining portion of the dress, but I'm really happy with it so far, so I can only imagine how much I will like the whole thing when it's done!
This weeks marathon goals:
-I did pilates yesterday
-I ran 2.25 miles today
-run 3 miles Thursday or Friday
-do pilates or eliptical machine on Wednesday or Thursday
-run 10 miles Sunday
This weeks wedding goals:
-continue to look for bridesmaid shoes
-start designing the other top secret project for the wedding favors
-start designing the ceremony programs
-call around for printing prices on rsvp cards and start printing
-start looking for envelopes for invitations
-schedule our one-day church meeting (Brian)

Week 5: 7 Miles / Favors, Bridesmaid Dresses, & Church
7 miles
Not bad. We got to run all around the studio lots and Forest Lawn, in Burbank. It was a fun run. The mile markers seemed to come a lot quicker than they usually do, so I think that's a pretty good sign. The group runs are a lot of fun, because I'm able to take my mind off of running when they're around, so time flies a little faster. I did get a new job, which may require me to work Sunday morning/afternoons, so I'm a little worried about that. I'm going to try my best to continue to run with my Sunday group, even though it means that all of my Saturdays for the next 5 months are going to be early nights and lots of water. Bye, bye fun. Hello run.

I should also mention that I've been getting so much support lately by friends and family, all very generously donating to help those living with AIDS and to help me get to marathon day! It's been hard to wipe the smile off my face the past few days. If you want to help, please donate here: http://apla.convio.net/goto/annette. Remember, every dollar counts! And, it's tax deductible!
Favors, Bridesmaid Dresses & Church
Lots of things to mark off the list this week! I finished my top secret wedding favor project! I'm extremely happy with how everything looks and I can not wait to start putting it all together - which will be around February! There are still a few top secret decorative elements that remain, but the hardest part is done!
The biggest accomplishment this week has been... I got bridesmaid dresses! It all happened so fast! I just happen to be walking by one of my favorite dress shops and found the perfect bridesmaid dresses! I got a great deal, so I just went for it. Luckily, I got all the girls the right sizes! And surprisingly, all of the girls and the moms (including mine) love the dress! How did I manage to make everyone happy? So, that's a big burden off of my back. Now, for the shoes...
Brian and I have also been doing a lot of the church planning this week. We went to our focus and found out that we were pretty darn compatible! Hooray! That means, we were able to opt out of the weekend engagement encounter and attend a one-day engagement session instead. Brian also got the music approved for our ceremony and is now focusing on the arrangement.
So, things are getting done. It's really great!

Week 4: 6 Miles / Favors & Church
6 miles
The dreaded day after Halloween run. Somehow, I woke up before my alarm went off at 6:15am and began to prepare for the 6 mile run ahead. The weather was nice, and considering Halloween was last night, we all were all in good spirits to run 6 miles. In order to prepare us for the hills we will be running along on Sunset Blvd., we had a couple of little hills on our course. I find that I run those best slowly, so I don't exert too much energy. It's been do-able. I'm glad they are throwing those hills to prepare us for the big day. Overall, it was a nice run. Here I am, post 6 miles:

Somewhat sweaty, but all around alright.
Favors & Church
Keeping this blog and set of goals has been keeping me very productive. We have accomplished so much since this blog has started! We booked the food, alcohol, flowers, my dress is being sewed, the main portion of the invitations is done, the rsvp portion of the invites has been designed, the cake topper situation is in progress, the favor packages have been purchased, and we've both lost a few pounds. I'm really proud of us. Today, while I was out running, Brian went to our church to make the final decision on the priest. We both really found one we like, so as I type this blog post, Brian is typing an email to the church to see the priest's availability and to begin the scheduling process of our marriage meeting with the priest. I'm also hoping to write the music director of the church to get an idea of the music we can play during the ceremony.
This weeks marathon goals:
-run 3 miles Tuesday or Wednesday
-run 3 miles Thursday or Friday
-run 7 miles Sunday
This weeks wedding goals:
-Make additional packaging for the wedding favors
-Contact church regarding music, priest, and engagement sessions
-Call around for printing prices on rsvp cards and start printing

Week 3: 5 Miles / Invites
This post comes a little late, but that's only because I have been so productive with all things running and wedding.
5 mile run
Surprisingly, this run was not bad at all. The weather was nice and cold and my team was in high spirits. I also purchased some new running gadgets including: fancy run capri pants, new socks, new running shirt (which I didn't wear this week), and a water bottle utility belt. I was told to wear the belt below my hips at the store, but that just made things all too bouncy, so I tightly wore my belt at the smallest part of my waist and it felt perfect. The more I get to know my team, the more I like them. Everyone is so positive, determined, and really fun to be around. They make a 5 mile run feel like a 2 miler! Can't wait to do 6 miles! It really is getting easier.
Invitations
Right after my run, I made us a little lunch, took a shower, then went straight to our invitations. We had a little trouble getting them to look right last time, but this time, they were perfect. I almost cried. I spent the next 7-8 hours on my feet doing some printing work. When I was done, the apartment was covered in invites and I was ready to pass out. Did I mention I only had 200 calories that day? Not good. We ordered in some food, then spent the rest of the night with friends at a party. All in all, a very productive day. It's been a very productive week, actually. Brian has been calling people all over town to figure out the alcohol serving situation, and I've got lots of top secret plans taken care of, mostly regarding the wedding favors. The easy part is done with the favors, the hard part will begin around February, when we start assembling things together.
This weeks marathon goals
-run 3 miles Tuesday (today)
-run 3 miles Thursday or Friday
-run 6 miles Sunday
This weeks wedding goals
-Finish details with invites (today)
-Finalize design on RSVP cards and begin the printing process
-Start looking for envelopes
-Try to finalize permits for the reception location (Brian)
-Start working on ceremony music program (Brian)
-Begin preparing a decorative element of the wedding favors (top secret)
-Look for lots and lots and lots of ribbon (for a good price)

Week 2: 4 miles / Flowers, Dresses, & Invites
4 mile run
Today was pretty good. My pace group and I got to know each other a little bit better, as we sweated it out in the overcast sun. We finished in about 56-58 minutes, which was fast for our group. I knew it felt a bit faster than my usual pace, so it was really nice to hear the coach tell everyone to slow down. Our pace group has been assigned a 2:2 run/walk ratio, which makes the entire feat of marathon running seem doable. I don't feel too exhausted and I'm anxious to do it again next week, except for 5 miles.
Flowers, Dresses, & Invites
A lot got done this week. Last week, I spent lot of time trying on dresses. As much as I love to shop, I hate to shop for wedding dresses. As a girl who wears 95% vintage clothing, shopping for anything non-vintage is such a chore for me. Wedding dress shopping is a whole new level of hatred. Not only is everything not really "me"-enough, but you always hear brides with their entourages trying on a slew of dresses next door, finding their perfect dresses, having their crew go nuts on them, and freaking at the sight of tiaras. That's cool for them, it's just so completely not me. It helps make the whole experience a little more frustrating. Being that girl would probably be easier. All that being said, this week, I decided to just get my dress made. I picked up some fabric, which I just chose in about 5 minutes, drove it to the lady's house, and should be hearing from her in approximately 3 weeks for my first fitting. I couldn't be happier to never step into a bridal salon again! Well, I still do have to chose bridesmaid dresses, so....
This entire week, we also concentrated a lot on our invites. We have been designing them ourselves, so there's been lots of back and forth with the wording, the font, and the design elements, but I think we've got it all down and may get started on some printing today! Fingers crossed!
In a few minutes, Brian and I will be leaving to our wedding reception site to meet with florist for a walk through. I'm hoping we get him booked and done with, just to cross another thing off of our list. The tasks for this coming week:
This weeks marathon goals
-run 3 miles Monday or Tuesday
-run 3 miles Thursday or Friday
This weeks wedding goals
-Finish printing invites
-Start working on RSVP cards
-Start looking for envelopes
-Try to finalize permits for the reception location
-Start working on ceremony music program
-Test a few things out for the wedding favors (top secret)
Week 1: 3 miles / Invitations & Dress
The goal of this blog is to document the next 27 weeks, in which I will run a marathon in 23 weeks and get married in 27. Each week, I will train with my team and plan with my boyfriend, hoping to get it all done while remaining safe and sane.
It's a pretty poignant day today. The beginning of this journey is much like the end. Not only did I start my first day of marathon training today, but I am also attending the wedding of some dear friends. It's as if I have a preview into the future of the end of this big adventure.
3 Mile Run
Today was my first run with my new training team, AIDS Marathon Los Angeles. We did a breezy 3 miles, not too bad. Earlier this year I was running 8 miles, but after a knee injury, I got distracted with school, work, and life in general, so I haven't been running since earlier this year. Today I got put into the 14-15 minute mile pace group, which is a lot faster than I expected to be. We're a big group, so I expect some fun runs in my future. I'm already anxious for Sunday to come again, when we will run 4 miles, but it's still early. I can't imagine being excited for Sunday, six weeks from now, when it's time to run 10+ miles. Oh, and buy then, there will only be 20 weeks left to get married...
Invitations & Dress
We got engaged on February 13th, so before this blog's creation, we have already planned most of the major things:
-Church
-Reception venue
-Photographers
-Videographers
-DJ
We have also made lots of progress with other things like:
-Flowers
-Food
-Decor
This week we decided to finalize the font, design, and wording for the invites. We decided to do the invites ourselves, since we want them to be a little different, and we're both somewhat crafty. How will they be different? Well, that's a surprise; however, all will be revealed in about 28+ weeks. This weekend I have also decided that I want to get the dress custom made. I'm a little on the late side doing this, but I found a dress maker and I'm really excited about it.
This weeks marathon goals:
-run 3 miles on Tuesday
-run 3 miles on Friday
This weeks wedding goals:
-Buy fabric for the dress Wednesday
-Meet with dressmaker and get things started
